FAQ

WHEN IS THE MARCH TO OTTAWA?
September 15 – 19, 2025

WHERE WILL THE MARCH TO OTTAWA BE?
We will march from (TBD) to Parliament Hill, in Ottawa, Ontario Canada

WHY IS THE MARCH TO OTTAWA HAPPENING?
Though the Canadian Delegation from the Global March to Gaza will not be sending a boat on the upcoming Global Sumud Flotilla, we fully support their call to action for unity and for people to mobilize within their own countries.

The recent armsembargonow.ca/report exposed that Canada has continued the flow of weapons to Israel while posing as a humanitarian actor. The Canadian government has lied to the public about its role in the Gaza genocide, and for this reason, the Canadian Delegation believes it is crucial to expose the myth of Canadian neutrality. We will mobilize on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to confront this lie and to demand a stop the Gaza genocide.

WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS?
The Canadian delegation to the Global March to Gaza and Palestine Vivra have initiated the March to Ottawa. We are working with a variety of other organizations to put pressure on the Canadian government to impose a two-way arms embargo, sanctions on Israel and end the Gaza genocide.

ABOUT THE MARCH TO OTTAWA ACTIONS
The March to Ottawa actions will include:

1.     A powerful five-day vigil that will be moving, grounded and deeply meaningful. Together, we will name, commemorate, and honour more than 18,000 children (symbolic of all Palestinians). As we read their names, we will intentionally confront the reality that there is little doubt that some of these children were likely murdered by at least one of the 175,000 bullets Canada shipped to Israel or the Canadian-made F-35 parts used to drop 2,000-pound bombs on Palestinians. At the beginning of each reading on Parliament Hill, we will remind the government and the Canadian public that these are not just names – these are innocent lives stolen by violence that Canada has helped arm and sustain.

2.     A letter to every MP asking them to:
a) Confirm that they have read the armsembargonow.ca/report.
b) Join us on Parliament Hill to read aloud the name of one Palestinian child (we will provide each MP with the name, date, and time).
c) Endorse our list of demands, which include:
·      Stop the genocide and adopt the measures outlined by the Hague Group, convening on September 20, 2025.
·      Enforce a two-way arms embargo immediately.
·      Suspend trade agreements with Israel.
·      Show unwavering support for international law, including recognition of the Palestinian right to self-determination.
·      Prosecute Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land.
·      Investigate, arrest, and prosecute Israeli officials and soldiers responsible for war crimes.
·      Investigate and prosecute Israel for the crime of genocide and violations of international law.

3.     Directly confronting and urging MPs to take action to end Canadian complicity.

4.     Launch a coordinated social media campaign to track and expose whether our government - and each MP - responds to our letter, joins us on Parliament Hill, and takes concrete steps to end the genocide.

WHAT IS THE HAGUE GROUP?
The Hague Group is a coalition of countries, primarily from the Global South, formed on January 31, 2025. The group has proposed several measures, including barring arms transfers to Israel, economic and trade sanctions and stict adherence to international law.  Thery have made a call for other nations to join them by September 20, 2025.

WHAT ARE THE SIX MEASURES PROPOSED BY THE HAGUE GROUP?

  • Prevent the carriage of arms, munitions, military fuel, related military equipment, and dual-use items to Israel on vessels bearing our flag… and ensure full accountability, including de-flagging, for non-compliance with this prohibition.
  • Commence an urgent review of all public contracts, to prevent public institutions and funds from supporting Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territory and entrenching its unlawful presence.
  • Comply with obligations to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes under international law, through robust, impartial and independent investigations and prosecutions at national or international levels, to ensure justice for all victims and the prevention of future crimes.
