 David Hill publicly called Pro-Palestinian protests ‘Jew hatred’. Hill described people gathering to peacefully protest the genocide in Gaza as ‘the systematic dehumanizing of a Canadian minority’. Even as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were slaughtered or horribly injured by a country whose leaders literally referred to Palestinians as ‘animals’ and non-human – Hill wants to focus on how Canadian citizens protesting those atrocities need to be arrested and prosecuted. It is incredible that our political representatives – even at the municipal level – are still being allowed to use these kinds of cynical tactics to fuel their own political aspirations.
To use Pro-Palestinian protests against the genocide in Gaza as the pretext for providing more police funding is deeply, deeply cynical. To suggest to the citizens of Ottawa that they will be able to sleep more soundly in their beds if we crackdown on people saying the names of murdered children of Gaza is worse than cynical – it is depraved. Not only does David Hill not have a single word for the people of Gaza – he wants to ensure that anybody who does say a word on their behalf is silenced. By boot and baton, if necessary. Hill’s deliberate attempt to confuse support for Palestinians and opposition to Israel with antisemitism does a disservice to the many Jewish Canadians who have stood with Palestine at the thousands of rallies held across the country over the last two years. It also increases the danger posed to Jewish Canadians by true antisemitism. Every single person of conscience who has allowed the last two years to pass without raising their voice to protest should be ashamed. Every single person of influence – especially our elected representatives – who has allowed the last two years to pass without protest against Israel, bears some responsibility for the murder and maiming of Palestinians. Every elected representative who attempts to still the voices speaking for the people of Palestine should have a special place reserved in hell. David Hill among them. Residents of Ward 3 Barrhaven West – don’t let Hill get away with this.

 Irwin Cotler - former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada - opposes recognition of the State of Palestine by Canada and is the chief architect of Canada’s formal adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism. The intention of the IHRA definition of antisemitism is to silence all criticism of Israel.
Joshua Sealy-Harrington, an associate professor and chair of equality law at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law said of the Handbook “It casts not just anti-Zionism but international law and in particular Palestinian human rights as antisemitic. … [It is] an Israel immunity handbook and must be understood as such.” Throughout his career, Cotler has used the guise of ‘humanitarian’ to support the Zionist ideology/regime in Canada and around the world. In November of 2020 Justin Trudeau named Cotler as the first “Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism” Cotler’s job was to “... to advance the implementation of this [IHRA] definition across the country and its adoption internationally.” The result was the publication by the Canadian federal government of “The Canadian Handbook on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism” Independent Jewish Voices has condemned the IHRA definition, in general, and Cotler’s brainchild, The Handbook, in particular. The Handbook explicitly describes how law enforcement, the Canadian legal system and Canadian institutions should deal with criticism of Israel. Cotler has publicly opposed recognition of Palestine for more than a decade. In 2012, Cotler advised then foreign minister John Baird to reject the recognition of Palestine at the UN…just as he rejects it today. Cotler was one of a group of legal scholars who unsuccessfully argued that the International Criminal Court should not have jurisdiction over crimes committed in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem because Palestine should not be understood as a "state". In January 2024 Cotler criticized South Africa’s genocide case against Israel, claiming that “"Israel consistently seeks to minimize harm to civilians…” Even as we witness the deliberate targeting of health workers, journalists and children. In the face of undeniable evidence here is what Cotler has to say about Israel’s apartheid regime 'to say Israel is an apartheid state' is not only false and prejudicial to Israel, but it undermines the real struggle against apartheid and the integrity of that movement.” Perhaps it should be enough to know that Cotler and Alan Dershowitz are great friends. Dershowitz has described Cotler as a "modern-day Abraham". Of course, Dershowitz has also justified the murder of infants in defense of Israel. For Cotler - like so many ‘humanitarian’ Zionists – “never again” refers only to the Jewish people. For the Palestinians? Any and all atrocities are acceptable.  Pamela Wallin just (again) revealed herself to be the political hack she is and always has been. So, she finds the use of the word ‘genocide’ offensive, but has no problem with the actual commission of genocide. She doesn’t think ‘genocide’ has been established?
Three weeks ago the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel concluded that Israel is guilty of genocide. Amnesty International has confirmed that Israel is guilty of genocide. The US-bases Center for Constitutional Rights has concluded that Israel is guilty of genocide. Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for Palestine and the Occupied Territories has concluded Israel is guilty of genocide. Huan Rights Watch has concluded that Israel is guilty of genocide. The Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem has concluded that Israel is guilty of genocide. The International Association of Genocide Scholars has concluded that Israel is guilt of genocide. But… Pamela Wallin isn’t sure???!!! In between, bilking Canadians out of tens of thousands of dollars and shilling for violent US interventions around the world, Pam’s decided to weigh in on genocide? Wallin has already clearly demonstrated that she can’t be trusted with Canadian’s money, news or public policy – we certainly won’t look to her for definitions of genocide. The experts have spoken. But of course, not surprising that she objects to the term genocide – because we are morally obligated not to supply arms to a country committing a genocide. And Wallin has spent most of her career lobbying for arms manufacturers. War-mongering has been her central role in government – with the Hraper government and since. Hey Pam? If we want advice on how to pad our bank accounts using false travel claims…you’re our gal. If we want a Canadian who has courage, compassion and any principles at all – we’ll look elsewhere. Wallin has carried water for Israel her entire shameful career. If expensive hairstyling and well-tailored outfits make somebody a journalist, then Wallin was a journalist – otherwise she is and was the kind of vapid, empty talking head that characterizes most establishment media. She’s a hair-do with a script. True journalists like Anas Al-Sharif and Wafa Al-Udaini expose Wallin’s media career for the charade that it was. She – and her partners in shame, Raymonde Saint-Germain and Yonah Martin – are an embarrassment to themselves, the Senate and all Canadians.  Mark J Carney – Shameful PM of the Day. Imagine this – here’s what Carney wrote about Trump’s plan for Gaza.

As the critical next step, Hamas must immediately release all hostages. Carney's eagerness to lick Trump's boots has never been more transparently obvious. So, what is Mark Carney’s record on Gaza? No arms embargo. No economic sanctions. No adherence or support for international law . Allowing Israel to hold all Palestinians in Gaza hostage in exchange for ‘recognition’ of Palestine. Support for the ‘Trump’ plan for Gaza. A plan developed by Netanyahu and Trump, to be led by Tony Blair and Donald Trump and designed to enrich Trump and cronies. A plan the UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine has characterized as ‘The Trap of the Century’ A call for the 20 Israeli hostages to be released immediately with no mention of the thousands of Palestinian hostages – men, women and children. That’s right. Children. - held in Israeli prisons without charges or due process. Rightful condemnation of the attack on the Manchester synagogue, but no mention of the sniper attack on Marwan Abdeen, a nurse at the Yassar Medical Complex in Gaza. Are we surprised that Mark wasn’t able to take a few minutes and a few steps from his office to join people from across Canada to honour and remember some of the children murdered in Gaza by saying their names aloud? The degree to which Carney takes immoral and unprincipled positions on Palestine shocks and shames me more than it surprises me. So, refusing to Say Their Names doesn’t even make the long list of Carney’s shameful acts.  Melissa Lantsman has been among the worst of a party full of feckless politicians in her response to the genocide in Gaza. As the co-deputy leader of the Conservative party she has not only supported the bombing of hospitals she has labelled anybody who suggests that bombing hospitals is a crime as “appalling”.
Lantsman, of course, opposed Canada’s recognition of Palestinian statehood calling it “a betrayal of Canadian values and a betrayal of the Canadian people.” It would be hard to find anybody who understands less about Canadian values than this MP. She knows what the millionaire donors in her Thornhill riding want. Melissa Lantsman, wrote in a recent social media post that Carney’s recognition “vindicated” hostage-taking and handed victory to the “violent mobs who block streets, vandalize businesses, target synagogues, and even shoot up schools. She had an opportunity to join peaceful Canadians from across the country to Say Their Names and chose not to. Lantsman travelled to Israel in November 2023 to support and provide cover for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Over the past two years Lastman met regularly (8 times) with lobbyists from organizations who support Israel’s genocidal policies in Gaza such as The Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs, the Azrieli Foundation and B’Nai Brith…when she wasn’t meeting with lobbyists from banks (21 times) and oil companies (10 times). Even now as every humanitarian organization in the world recognizes that what is happening in Gaza is a genocide, Lastman continues to talk about Israel’s ‘right to self-defense’. She has denounced every concern raised about Israel’s slaughter in Gaza as antisemitic. Peaceful protesters are characterized as a “Hamas-supporting mob”. Peaceful protest outside Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto was met with this diatribe - “The mobs will not silence my voice against the genocidal, homicidal, sadistic death cult of Hamas who killed 1,200 Israelis and took hostage hundreds more. It is Hamas whose leadership consistently calls for the killing of Jews resulting in horrific antisemitism has been allowed to flourish in Justin Trudeau’s Canada with a deafening silence from every leader in his cowardly government.” As if Lastman’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza is some courageous act of resistance . Resistance against who? Canadian healthcare workers who tape 81/2 x 11” sheets of paper on the windows and doors of her offices? Here is a revealing quote from Lantsman “My parents encouraged me to do volunteer work in the community, and I didn’t have the stomach to do the old-age home, like most of my friends,” Lantsman told JNS. “I shudder at the sight of blood or sick people.” Lantsman has no trouble with the sick and bleeding in Gaza – presumably because they don’t qualify as people in her view. When asked how many children would have to die in Gaza before she would reconsider her support for Israel, Lantsman chose not to respond. But the number is now over 20000 children and Lantsman could not bring herself to take a few minutes and a few steps from her office to remember those murdered children by saying their names aloud. AND BTW - Melissa, could you please complete the forms necessary to demonstrate that you are in compliance with Canada’s Conflict of Interest Act.  Vince Gasparro was our Shameful MP of the Day for September 24, for announcing on social media that Kneecap would not be allowed to perform in Canada. But we’re bringing him back for a curtain call because it turns out that Gasparro ‘ went rogue’ when he made that announcement.
So, Vince and Mark Carney meet with officials for the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs and three days later Gasparro is on Social media announcing Kneecap’s ban from Canada. But – without any authority to do so. It is being reported that, “The PMO explicitly asked MP Gasparro whether he had IRCC’s authorization to make his announcement — he said yes. That was false. No decision had been made by IRCC or the PMO. His statement was completely unauthorized.” It is further being reported that, Gasparro offered to delete his video announcing the ban, but the PMO rejected the offer on the grounds “it will attract more attention.” CBC is reporting that Gasparro …gave no heads up to the offices of the public safety minister or the privacy commissioner of Canada, before he posted the video. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has announced that it “was not engaged in this matter”. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Lena Metlege Diab has declined to comment on Kneecap's ban, citing privacy reasons, but when asked by CBC News whether Gasparro notified her office about his plans to publish a video, she said, "You will have to speak to him." Gasparro himself is refusing to comment further. It seems pretty clear at this point that Vince decided to curry favour with the Pro-Israel lobby by making the unfounded claim that Kneecap were banned from entering Canada. So, Gasparro can go to social media to falsely claim that he was banning Kneecap, but he can’t take a few minutes and a few steps from his office to honour and remember the murdered children of Gaza, by saying their names aloud. BTW, Vince - it’s been five months since the election…could you please submit the documents required to show your compliance with the Conflict of Interest Act. Just want to be sure there are no additional false claims there.  Wayne Long would be just one among a long list of Liberal MPs if he had provided nothing but empty words for the people of Palestine. Instead, Long has been a vocal opponent of the Pro-Palestine community in Saint John.
MP Long was forced to issue a public apology in January of 2024 after an encounter with Pro-Palestine protestors in during which he and/or his staff referred to Palestine supporters as ‘terrorists’. A joint statement from the Muslim Association of NB, the Islamic Society of NB, and the Immigrant Relief Community Centre stated that “This incident raised a serious and valid concern in the irresponsible way our elected Parliament representative acted in public…”. Independent Jewish Voices NB called for a “thorough investigation by the Liberal Party of Canada into the actions of MP Wayne Long” and for MP Long’s resignation. Public apology notwithstanding, Long has continued to take to social media to denigrate the Pro-Palestinian community in Saint John - accusing anybody who questions Israel’s ongoing genocide as being antisemitic. MP Long publicly thanked a constituent who suggested that Pro-Palestine protesters should ‘go back to wherever they came from’. And he was an early adopter of the position that – as an MP - he could no longer appear in public because the Pro-Palestine community was a threat to his personal safety. But was pleased to publicly call out a Saint John city councilor for being a strong Pro-Palestine voice on Saint John city council. And of course, intimating on social media that her support for the people of Gaza was antisemitic and pro-Hamas. MP Long has adopted every cynical tactic in the playbook of those providing cover and support for the ongoing genocide in Gaza – conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism, characterizing Pro-Palestine supporters as violent and using October 7th as a license for Israel to commit any and all atrocities against the Palestinian people. Since October 7th, Long has used his position as a second-term member of parliament to stoke resentment and anger against the Pro-Palestine community in his riding of Saint John – Rothesay. On Palestine, MP Long, is ignorant, heartless, craven and determined to mislead the people of Saint John and Canada – no brain, no heart, no courage and a charlatan…he could play most of the parts in The Wizard of Oz. Wayne has brought these same personal characteristics to his ongoing mismanagement of The Canada Revenue Agency. We were not surprised when he couldn’t find the human decency to take a few minutes and a few steps from his office to join Canadians from across the country to honour the murdered children of Gaza, by saying their names aloud.  Today we step away from the shame that our elected officials have brought to Canadians and focus on an appointed official – Bob Rae, the Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations. Approximately 75% of UN delegates left the room when Netanyahu rose to speak. Bob Rae remained seated. He chose to welcome a war criminal. Canada is obligated to arrest Netanyahu if he appears on Canadian soil, but Bob Rae remained seated. Would he have remained seated for Hitler as he described his plans for the Holocaust?
He said he remained because - ‘That’s my job.” Where have we heard that before? No doubt Rae’s marching orders came from above – from Mark Carney. But people of principle don’t simply, “Follow orders.” They do not collaborate. And Bob Rae chose to collaborate. And by doing so made all Canadians collaborators. Netanyahu’s flight to the United Nations had to be carefully routed to avoid landing in European countries where he would have been arrested for war crimes. However, we can be sure a layover in Toronto wouldn’t have been a problem – Canada has decided to stand with Israel and the United States in support of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Much smaller less influential countries than Canada have chosen not to collaborate. Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro had his US visa revoked because he called for a ‘global force to free Palestine’. But Bob Rae cannot rise from his seat in protest of the genocide in Gaza. There was applause for Netanyahu’s speech from those who remained – Bob Rae was likely among those applauding. Rae, with Carney’s blessing, joins the list of notorious collaborators such as Philippe Pétain and Pierre Laval. And Canada continues to play “the Vichy” to Israel’s Nazi Germany.  Ben Carr has consistently stepped out in favour of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The House of Commons passed a bogus arms embargo motion in March of 2024, which was exposed as a sham in the July 2025 report ‘ Exposing Canadian Military Exports To Israel’. But Ben Carr was one of three Liberal MP’s who could not even bring themselves to vote in favour of the ‘sham’ embargo. Canada’s recent recognition of Palestine as a state was a further empty gesture given that the conditions attached deprived Palestinians of the right to self-governance and self-defense. But again – even this motion Carr could not support.
Carr denied that Canadians should have the right to protest the participation of Canadian citizens in the ongoing genocide in Gaza. In April 2025 the Asper Jewish Community Campus held an event celebrating the participation of two soldiers in the Israeli Occupying Forces genocide. When rallies were organized to protest the event, Ben Carr announced that Canadians should never have the right to protest “…in front of religiously affiliated spaces.” Carr also urged the cancellation of a 2023 event ‘Palestine and Genocide’ at the University of Winnipeg. Ben Carr has spent the last two years providing support and cover for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, smearing criticism of Israel as antisemitism and demanding that Canada continue to be complicit in the genocide. What Ben Carr could not do – was take a few minutes and a few steps from his office on Parliament Hill to honour and remember the murdered children of Gaza by reading their names aloud. When craven politicians like Ben Carr cannot take the simple step of recognizing the innocents, it is confirmation that most of our representatives in Parliament will never be able to take a principled stand on Palestine.  Over the week from September 15 – 19, participants in The March To Ottawa spoke passionately of the need for Canada to take real action against Israel to deter the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
On September 16th, Day 2 of the March To Ottawa, Alexandre Boulerice, Tatiana Harker, Baya El Hachemi, Najlaa Zaanin, Ibahim Younis and Jeff Houlahan spoke eloquently on behalf of Palestinians and the need for Canada to intervene against Israel. Boulerice has been a steadfast supporter of Palestine, but without the commitment of the governing Liberals the massacre will continue. On December 18th, Day 4 of the March To Ottawa, Dr. Nimâ Machouf, Harker, Kelsey Lyseng and Tara St. James responded to PM Carney’s announcement that Canada will recognize the State of Palestine and to announce its next steps in the defense of the rights of the Palestinian people and against the genocide in Gaza. Dr. Nimâ Machouf, epidemiologist and participant of the Flotilla 1000 Thousands Madleens will set sail for Gaza in the coming days. On December 19th, Day 5 of the March To Ottawa, Manuel Tapial and Houlahan spoke of the desperate plight of Palestinians in Gaza and the moral imperative for Canada and Canadians to take real action against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. They contrasted this desperate need, with the fact that only nine of 343 members of parliament we willing to take a few steps from their offices and honour the murdered children of Gaza by saying their names aloud. All Canadians should be outraged and ashamed on their behalf. |
