This is an excerpt of the response that MP Claude DeBellefeuille sent us upon receiving her third personal invitation to stand with Canadians from across the country to remember and honour the murdered children of Gaza by saying their names aloud. “…due to incidents during certain recent demonstrations, and for the safety of our elected officials and staff, we will not be able to physically attend this event.” The parents of murdered children in Gaza have no choice but to ‘physically attend the event’. They are forced to wrap in bloodied shrouds what is left of the shattered bodies of their children before searching for a place to bury them. And MP DeBellefeuille can’t walk 100 steps from her office to honour and remember these children. Out of fear. But she was not afraid of the Canadians who had gathered on the Hill to lift the names of murdered children to the sky. She was of afraid of what her boss, Mark Carney, would say and do if she had the temerity to pay her respects to the murdered children of Gaza. She should be ashamed. As should every Canadian who accepts this kind of craven behavior from our representatives.
