Shameful MP of the Day - Sept 26

Ben Carr has consistently stepped out in favour of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.  The House of Commons passed a bogus arms embargo motion in March of 2024, which was exposed as a sham in the July 2025 report ‘ Exposing Canadian Military Exports To Israel’.   But Ben Carr was one of three Liberal MP’s who could not even bring themselves to vote in favour of the ‘sham’ embargo.  Canada’s recent recognition of Palestine as a state was a further empty gesture given that the conditions attached deprived Palestinians of the right to self-governance and self-defense.  But again – even this motion Carr could not support.

Carr denied that Canadians should have the right to protest the participation of Canadian citizens in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.  In April 2025 the Asper Jewish Community Campus held an event celebrating the participation of two soldiers in the Israeli Occupying Forces genocide.  When rallies were organized to protest the event,  Ben Carr announced that Canadians should never have the right to protest “…in front of religiously affiliated spaces.”

Carr also urged the cancellation of a 2023 event ‘Palestine and Genocide’ at the University of Winnipeg. Ben Carr has spent the last two years providing support and cover for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, smearing criticism of Israel as antisemitism and demanding that Canada continue to be complicit in the genocide.

What Ben Carr could not do – was take a few minutes and a few steps from his office on Parliament Hill to honour and remember the murdered children of Gaza by reading their names aloud.  When craven politicians like Ben Carr cannot take the simple step of recognizing the innocents, it is confirmation that most of our representatives in Parliament will never be able to take a principled stand on Palestine.
